In 2006, Kunal Saha, a young talented versatile Santoor artiste, formed his own fusion band “Blendz” ,the only ethnic electronic fusion group from Eastern India with santoor in the lead. “Blendz” focuses towards attracting the youth towards the richness of Indian Classical music and also propagates santoor as a musical Instrument, which can fit to any genre of music.
“Blendz” performed in India’s Got Talent (Season 1) in 2008 and earned many commendable accolades from the renowned panel of judges. Shekhar Kapoor and Sonali Bendre hailed the compositions rendered by Blendz as ‘true fusion’, while Kirron Kher captured the essence of Blendz in her words ‘Aaj ka Hindustan’. In the finals (Independence Day Special) they were the topmost according to Kirron Kher.
The musical repertoire of Blendz ranges from incorporating classical Bandishes, Sufi, Bollywood and Indian folk tunes and original compositions with a unique exploration of combined sounds from a variety of instruments and integration of electronic sounds and beats. Thus, the flavors of Blendz takes the audience on a journey to a new era of world-class music.
The musical kaleidoscope of Blendz creates a wonderful variety of moods, tones and expressions that captivates the listeners and breaks the barrier of languages and maps to create music for all. Each of their compositions has its own identity that creates a unique musical zest.
